Hypoallergenic puppies (lower-shedding breeds)
Some families want a puppy that leaves less hair around the house. This page shows lower-shedding breeds and mixes, and the puppies we have now.
Lower-shedding breed, often called hypoallergenic. No dog is allergy-free. Mixed-breed coats vary by the parents.

What lower-shedding means
Some breeds, like the Poodle, Maltese, Shih Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier and Bichon Frise, shed less hair than many other dogs. The American Kennel Club keeps a list of breeds it suggests for people with allergies.
The AKC says most pet allergies come from dander, tiny flakes of skin that cling to hair, and that no breed is 100% allergy-proof. Less shedding can mean less dander in your home, but it does not mean no allergies.
Mixed breeds vary
Mixes like Cavapoos, Cock A Poos, Shihpoos and Teddy Bears have at least one lower-shedding parent breed. But a mixed-breed puppy's coat depends on its parents, so it may shed more or less than you expect. Ask us about the parents of the puppy you like.
Before you decide
If someone in your home has allergies, come meet the puppy and spend time with it before you decide. It is smart to talk with your doctor, too.
