Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to find a puppy or a pet on our website. That includes people who are blind or have low vision, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnifier or voice control.
Our goal
Our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These are the guidelines from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that most websites use. We fix things in our own website code. We do not use an add-on that claims to fix a website by itself.
Display options
Change how the website looks for you. Your choice is saved on this device. You can also open these options from the Accessibility link at the bottom of every page.
Saved on this device only. Your browser's zoom (Ctrl and +, or pinch on a phone) also makes everything bigger.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard. Press Tab to move, and you will always see where you are. A “Skip to content” link is first on every page.
- Pages have clear headings, page titles and labels, so screen readers can read them in order.
- Puppy photos say the puppy's name and breed. Pictures that are only decoration are skipped by screen readers.
- Text and buttons have strong color contrast, and form boxes have borders you can see.
- Every form has labels, says which boxes are needed, and reads out any problem so you can fix it. Our forms have no puzzles or “prove you are human” tests.
- Pages still work when you zoom in to 200%, and on small phones without scrolling sideways.
- If your device is set to reduce motion or to more contrast, our website follows that setting.
- We check the main pages with automatic tests and by hand with a keyboard.
What we are still working on
- Some pet photos come straight from our store systems. Their descriptions are short (the pet's name and kind).
- Store maps are made by Google. Directions links next to each map open the same place in Google Maps.
- Puppy paperwork, like a signed agreement, may be a PDF file. Ask your store if you need it read to you, in large print or in another form.
- Links to Instagram, TikTok and YouTube go to those websites. Their accessibility is up to them.
- The website chat helper uses AI. A person from the store can always help you instead by phone or text.
